communication technology at georgian bay district secondary: the future of photography

Grade 12 Communication Technology (TGP 4M) Photography 2

Tyler Cadeau

This course is known as ‘Photo 2’. It happens to be my favorite course to teach. The students in this program have completed Photo 1 (prerequisite, except for very rare exceptions) and are wanting to develop and expand their photographic skills. This is where the magic happens.

We do a quick review of the basics taught in photo 1 then move into advanced technological concepts related to digital imaging. We explore Panoramic and High Dynamic Range imaging as well as light painting and other lighting techniques.

You will develop mastery level skills with PhotoshopCC and you may choose to use Lightroom with our state of the art PC and Mac lab.

Cameras are provided along with a vast array of photographic tools necessary for creative image making.

You will learn studio portrait lighting and develop field photography skills by photojournalistic coverage of the events at GBDSS.

You will be creating content for the yearbook and our website.

This course is part of the unique Specialist High Skills Major in Information and Communication Technology program offered at GBDSS.

The quality of work that is created in this program can be seen here and here.

This is a fast paced program. You will need to remain very organized and have excellent attendance to achieve a high level of success.

There is an ISU: a biography of a current working pro and a significant portion of your mark is assessed from your portfolio.

Your portfolio is submitted to me as a website that you will be developing as part of this class.

If you want to express your vision and learn to communicate it to the world, then this is the course for you.

For those of you who are wishing to pursue careers in Photography or Media Production, this class is a great head start. We have never had a student that submitted a portfolio fail to receive an offer of admission. Students enter post secondary destinations way ahead of their classmates.

If you have any more questions, or just want to hang out and see what we’re up to, you are welcome to come visit.
